|Autonomous Cooperation as a Method to cope with Complexity and Dynamics ? – A Simulation based Analysis and Measurement Concept Approach|
Over the past years an increase of complexity of production systems has been observed, caused by diverse changes, for example, short product life cycles as well as a decreasing number of product variants and higher product complexity. This development requires new planning and control methods of production systems, such as decentralized planning and control by intelligent logistic objects in autonomously controlled production systems. To achieve the ability to adapt on these new requirements autonomous cooperating logistic processes seem to be an appropriate method. In order to proof in which case autonomously controlled processes are more advantageous than conventionally managed processes it is essential to specify what is exactly meant with autonomous cooperation and how the achievement of logistic objectives in autonomously controlled systems can be estimated and compared in different autonomous controll methods. In general it is postulated that autonomous cooperation is one possible approach to cope with rising dynamics and complexity. The validation of this assumption has not been sufficiently examined. In this paper the main objective is to generate a contribution to analyze the relationship between the performance of autonomous cooperation methods and rising dynamics and complexity. To fulfil this purpose first autonomous cooperation has to be defined to isolate the object of interest. Secondly by simulation studies within production environment the influence of complexity and dynamics on autonomous cooperation will be verified. Therefore complexity and dynamics will be defined and ceteris paribus varied by one constitutive attribute to ensure the systematic process of simulation. Due to the fact that in (real) business systems different degrees of autonomous cooperation exist one further purpose is the development of a measurement concept. Thus achieved results of the simulation results can be related to different degrees of autonomous cooperation. Therefore a first basic concept of measurement of autonomous cooperation will be introduced.
