Abstract:

2,6-Bis (4-carboxyphenoxy) benzonitrile was first synthesized by condensation of 2,6-difluorobenzonitrile with p-Hydroxybenzoic acid in the presence of KOH and DMSO. And then the reaction of 2,6-bis (4-carboxyphenoxy) benzonitrile with sulfur oxychloride yieded 2,6-bis (4-chloroformylphenoxy) benzonitrile (BClPOBN). Poly (aryl ether ketone ketone)(PEKK)/poly (aryl ether ketone ether ether ketone)(PEKEEK) copolymers with pendant cyano groups were prepared by the Feiedel-Crafts elctrophilic substitution reaction of diphenyl ether (DPE) with varying mole proportions of terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) and 2,6-bis (4-chloroformylphenoxy) benzonitrile (BClPOBN) using 1,2-dichoroethane (DCE) as solvent and N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) as Lewis base in the presence of anhydrous AlCl3. The resulting polymers were characterized by different physico-chemical techniques, such as FT-IR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), and so on. The crystallinity and melting temperature of polymer were found to decrease with increase in concentration of BClPOBN units in the polymers when the molar ratio of BClPOBN to TPC ranged from 10/90 to 40/60. Thermogravimetric studies showed that all the polymers were stable up to 495 in N2 atmosphere. The glass transition temperature was found to increase with increase in concentration of BClPOBN units in polymer ~. The copolymers with 20~30%mol BClPOBN units exhibit excellent thermostability at (35010) and the thin films of polymer ~ which cast from DMF have tensile strength of 96~101.6MPa,Youngs moduli of 3.03~3.25GPa,elongation at break of 9~14%,indicating they are strong materials.
