|Entropy exchange and coherent quantum information|

We consider properties of noisy quantum information channels. The effect of these channels on entangled quantum states allows us to define several new quantities of interest, including the entropy exchange between a system and its environment and the coherent information that is conveyed by the channel. The coherent information in a channel can never be increased by quantum data processing. These ideas provide new tools for describing the information dynamics of open quantum systems.
