|A new treatment of optical Fredkin gate in quantum communication processes|

We study a quantum computer in which an optical Fredkin gate is expected to provide the logical gates of the computer. The optical Fredkin gate is constructed from two beam spliters and a material exhibiting the optical Kerr effect. The logical processes taking place in the optical Fredkin gate are described by observables of the reference system. In this talk, we reformulate the process of this gate as a state change. We explain the quantum channels of the beam spliter and optical Kerr effect and discuss the efficiency of the optical computer based on quantum communication theory.
