|Measures of distance between quantum states|

Various measures of distance between two arbitrary quantum states are investigated. Possible applications in assessing the quality of imperfect cloning of quantum states as well as in comparing of states resulting from any quantum-state engineering procedure with a prescribed state are indicated. The time dynamics of distances is illustrated by considering two simple yet nontrivial quantum optical models: Jaynes-Cummings model and the interaction of a coherent state with the nonlinear Kerr-like medium.
