On the barcode interpretation of the DNA structure |
Subject(s): BG.10, BG.3, BG.4
Category: Brief Article
Abstract:
It is suggested that the DNA structure presents a unique identification label, like a "barcode". This role of the DNA conforms with the standard wisdom, which considers DNA responsible for biological individuality of an organism and assigns different genes to particular attributes. Further elaboration of this interpretation associates the emergence of biological organization with information infrastructure of the physical world where the DNA macromolecules enable cell interactions by sharing the storage and bandwidth resources in a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) mode. Implications of this idea are far-reaching. A brief introduction of the suggested concept has been given at http://www.aps.org/meet/CENT99/vpr/ laybc31-02.html.
